Here's the deal--I'm an American grad student who will graduate with a Master of Arts in Teaching and an MA in English--TESOL emphasis. By the time I finish I will (hopefully) have two years of teaching experience. What are the chances that I can find a job teaching English at an Italian university? I know the job situation for Americans is bleak, but I have my heart set on working in Italy, so I'm trying to find out any and all information about getting a job there, despite my black-sheep status as an American. Also, if it is possible for me to find a university job, where do I find them? I've found that not too many university jobs are readily posted online. Thanks for any and all help. |

Hi Nikki,
well, I can pretty much guarantee you that you'll never find a job in an Italian (State) University unless you have a kick in the behind (sponsor) from someone in a high position... and even if you did, you'd be put in a very low position and given a low salary. I'm not trying to offend you because you're American.. I'm just trying to warn you of the situation in Italy in general. Italians try to keep high paying, high position jobs for themselves (including teaching jobs).. you'd have much better luck teaching in a private or international school/university... I'd advise you to concentrate your search on those. (for example Luiss University in Rome)...
Ciao for now

Thanks so much, DaniRome! Can you tell me where I can find information about more of those private/international universities? |

No problem Nikki, well the only two I know about are:
1) Luiss University
2) John Cabot University...
These are both in Rome.
For other school names, I'd suggest running a search on Google for: Private University +Rome (or whatever city you're looking to teach in), or even American/Canadian/British Universities +Italy.
You'll find that a lot of American/Canadian/British universities have campuses around Italy. Just run a few searches and see what you can find.
Good luck with your search,
