Starting in April, I'll be working as an ALT in junior high school (maybe elem, too) in Tokyo or Chiba.

liz,

to answer you q's. no this will be my first time for both alt and japan.
my view of an alt is i will be assisting the japanese english teacher in pronunciation, etc. "a living dictionary"..haha

will you be working for a company/program (eg. interac, jet) as an alt?

As an ALT, your job can range from radio voice for examination recordings, activity club leader, sports coach, pen pal, sheriff, shoulder to cry on, English teacher for teachers, foreign correspondent, newspaper editor, adjudicator for speech contests, #1 mop pusher, eater of absent students' lunches, tour guide for visiting dignitaries, mediator for indignant Japanese teachers, kendo target practice, hapless taster of home economics cuisine, table tennis umpire, object of ridicule and hopeless crushes.
