Ciao,
Being a British citizen teaching in Italy (coming to the end of a third year), I'm interested in others' experiences with paying taxes here, and the various obligations with the different types of contract.
This year and last I've been on an 'occasionale' contract, but this year being my third here my boss is obliged to pay and supply a tax certificate...
My boss said he hasn't been paying tax for me for the first two years because of the UK/Italian tax situation, and he wasn't obliged to. This would seem to contradict some advise obtained through a friend's contact who is a commercialista and says that anything earned above 5000 needs tax paying by myself and my employer.
This whole area is a minefield...
Any similar situations and experiences with advise as to how to procede would be welcomed...
Cheers,
Mike

Now there's a coincidence. I've just been looking around the web for information as I'm here in Italy but just starting!

The 5000 bit is the maximum allowed under the occasionale contracts, as I understand it, and I thought you had to be paid in 'buoni' with 13% taken off for INPS and 7% for Inail (dangerous occupation teaching!).

I thought the two year rule was for teachers on exchanges and the like, but I could well be wrong. Finding accurate information is a nightmare (as is trying to get decent pay..). I've been trying to factor in tax/NI on a potential job I had a meeting about this morning, and what they mentioned would not be enough. After prep similar pay to bar work, but if they want me I think they'll go a little higher.

Have a look at www.welfare.gov.it which is where I found the information above.

Do update me on what you find out.
