There definitely still are some worthwhile freelance jobs to be had in Moscow and from my recent six month experience there, this is by far the best way to make some decent money, rather than sign a contract, especially if you have a visa and have somewhere to stay etc.But whatever you do, don't work for the above-named firm or it will end in tears! After starting off very well and agreeing to the directors pleas to return from my break in january,I discovered they had hardly any work left at all as most of their schools had canceled their contracts!
She then ignored me and didn't even have the decency to answer my polite e-mail requests for an informal meeting to discuss the situation.Subsequently I met two other former employees of hers, both of whom had left on bad terms for similar reasons!
Post me for more details if you are interested and consider trying somewhere like Denis,Inlingua etc. etc. who will not only give you a decent hourly rate but also treat you like a human being!
Another tip-$20 per academic hour is the minimum acceptable going rate nowadays so don't be fooled into selling yourself cheap, especially with the cost of living in Moscow nowadays!
All the best!
Martin.
P.S. appartments are also unfortunately getting expensive and hard to find unless you have russian friends! |
