With hundreds of unfilled teaching hours for THIS semester we just cut loose adjucts that the supervisors loved and which were mere credits away from completing an appropriate masters degree.
The reason...no masters, no employment PERIOD.
All new hires including adjuncts.
On the plus side we have been offered a blank check on working overtime hours... |

And what is the pay for this privilege?
VS
(any buzz on the sudden insistence on MAs? in the past this was avoided as a requirement as it brought in too many of those pesky Americans. Are there new Americans that have been hired in HR? It has always seemed to be a change of Western management that brings on these kinds of new rules...) |

Well there has been a few changes to management at the HCT - a director moved to another campus last minute but even more worrying is the the elevation of the two most unpleasant directors to 'senior directors' . However the requirement of a Masters for adjuncts seems common now - has been that way for a long time at ZU- and recently heard that in future Ministry will require all university teachers/lecturers to have Phds. Maybe it has started as noticed recently a requirement to work at AUD as an adjunct (although not in English composition - MA) is Phd and a residence visa - I presume there are loads of people with Phds on their spouses visa just sitting at home waiting to get the call to adjuct for a measly hourly rate. Ah well if the HCT refuses to take adjuncts who do not have a Masters in hand then they will seriously have to rethink staffing as there are simply not enough people like that unemployed here and competition for those bodies that have the qualifications, and dare I say fit the HCT profile, especially in Dubai is pretty fierce.
Overtime who needs it - at what DH150 an hour- the organisation is generally overstaffed with management maybe it's time to get them back in the classroom.
So all you Teflers, Math and Computing teachers out there with masters in hand and bored at home apply to the HCT - it needs YOU |

DH150 an hour? That is US$40 a hour!! Tax free...
Not exactly chump change for those who are looking to pay off education loans or pad the retirement account.
VS
(the PhD rumor will never fly... just not enough of them and never will be) |
