Can anyone tell me what the situation is like for someone who does not want to teach in a private language institute, but rather in a university setting in Bangkok? I am twenty-nine-years-old, have an M.Ed in Postsecondary TESOL and a BA in English Literature, four years of experience teaching EFL and ESL, and am curious about the Thai teaching scene outside of the private cram schools to which many westerners flock for employment. If anyone has any information it would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are many universities in Bangkok and surrounding areas. New universities are opening every year around the country. With your qualifications you should have no trouble gaining employment at any of the better ones.

Teaching at university is better than teaching at a language school in terms of a stable monthly salary, long holidays, office space with computer, access to a library, young adult students with above average proficiency, onsite cafeterias, sometimes concerts and art galleries, etc. Cool

The disadvantages are office politics and the usually low salaries. Confused

But your teaching hours should be no more than 15 so you have the time to supplement with extra work. With your creds you may be able to find a school that pays an exceptional rate.
