|
|
I'll be heading over to Phom Penh in a few months..and was wondering if anyone had recommendations as to what to see? do? eat?
I already know about the killing fields and the genocide museum..which I definitely want to see...
But what else does PP have to offer to? not much interested in partying, more interested in culture, food, sights..
So what's the deal with PP?..
Also, I keep reading about how unsafe PP is and that it is not recommended to walk around after sunset..how accurate is this (considering we're two young females)?..
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to answer.. |

I was really scared the first time I went there. Only Detroit has filled me with as much fear. The second time I went there I was on a drunken rampage and everything seemed to make sense to me. |

As I menioned on another thread, anything worth mentioning about Cambodia should be done at khmer440.com. The mods on that site would be banned on this one.
There really isn't a lot to see in PP. However, there is certainly a lot to do. |

PP is madness, but I love it. Use it for what it's best for - a massive party, fill your boots, then leave. Culture is not it's strong point but I'd recommend a visit nonetheless.
You will be safe during the day but night is a different prospect, stay away from the market areas and stick to the tourist traps and you'll be fine. During the day you can go anywhere. |

I was in Cambodia on vacation about three weeks ago. PP has not much to offer. Aside from the Royal Palace and the Killing Fields, it's either party or nothing (that was my impression, anyway). If you're interested in history and culture, Siem Reap is the place to go to, not PP. |

I was there for 2 months this time last year. I loved it. I was working, and not partying so much (not really at all...). At night you do have to watch yourself a little more. If you're there for a long time get a tuk tuk driver that you like and trust and use them for everything. You can end up getting a better rate or even pay by the week. This way you know they wont be taking you any stange places. If there is 2 of you tuk tuks can be nicer than a moto, and slightly safer.
Generally you are safer to be close to home in the evenings, drinking and driving is a big thing at night! But dont get to paranoid, just dont be stupid. The same as any other place |
