Hey all, just a couple of weeks before I head out to TEFL International in Alexandria, Egypt!
I'm wondering if anyone can provide details on the requirement for an HIV test. According to the State Department, Egypt requires the test if you're staying there longer than 30 days or so.
I'd much, much rather get the test in the States rather than getting it over there. Does anyone know what kind of documentation I'd need if I did get a test? Do they only accept certain kinds of tests?
Thanks,

If you're entering on a tourist visa, then I wouldn't worry about it. I returned to Egypt to work (on a tourist visa) for a few months during the summer, and when I had to renew the visa downtown, I simply said I wasn't done visiting. No HIV test required. This may vary based on your country of origin, though. |

Yes, it would be better to get the test in US, also it would be better if you contact and check with the Egyptian Embassy in Washington for the requirements of certification and legalization of the medical documents and other necessary documents for your required visa. |

When I lived in Egypt, I changed employers, and though I had a photo copy of the 1st HIV test performed in Egypt, the govt required that I get a new test done at one of their locations. If an HIV test is required in this case, then I would say that you'll like have to get it there. Saying all of that, the normal westerner extending his/her stay in Cairo on a tourist visa will not need an HIV test. |
