V/S, Do you not recall the cull of 2003.
Teachers up for renewal were herded into the Director's anti room, if you were called into his office, bad news, but called into your Head's office, three more years. They released people half way through contracts, with a year to go, whatever. They had to lose 25% of the staff. Guess what? That summer they tried to hire them all back again. Plan B.
Goodness me! those were halcyon days.

Both, I think. |

Gauguin, I don't recall any mention of that here at Dave's. Normally a large proportion of teachers caught up in something like this show up here very quickly once they have nothing to lose.
I did a search and nothing was mentioned in any 2003 HCT thread.
None of my friends there mentioned it either. Was it just certain branches?

Yes back at the end of 2002 /2003 the word came down from the top that the HCT needed to cut faculty numbers by 25-30 % - actually one Director sent out the good news in a Xmas Day email !! - this was the time they also set the teaching load at 20 hrs and increased the class time to 55mins. Depending on the college size each had to cull a certain number of staff, while allowing for resignations there were still many who were told to go - services no longer needed as they lacked the necessary skill set - However, as a previous poster mentioned about two weeks after the summer break they were all called back but those who did return had to accept a lower salary. |

Veiled--those who mention the MCT massive cut in 2002 are correct. I left Dubai Women's for a better opportunity at the PI just before DWC was to announce who would be cut.
By the way, we always taught 20 hours at DWC, at least since 1997 when I started there. |

I always find it odd that people who feel that they were wronged don't come here to warn others.
Look at what happened on here with MLI and ADU ect...(and on other country threads) I think that there is a PhD thesis in why HCT can get away with it and nothing shows up here...
VS
(and I always taught 20 hours in AD prior to '97, but it got me out of some other duties because most didn't for both semesters...) |
