The after SARS students are supposed to show up now; filling up the classrooms of Aoteroa......is this happening?

Specifically: To Kereru: What is the situation in Christchurch?

Since I have bought a house in Kaiapoi and hope to be in Chch ASAP, depending on the "speed" of the Immigration Dept.,I love to know.

Sorry Peter, As you may have noticed, I've been so busy that I haven't been here for a couple of months. I'm one of the lucky ones. In the past 2 months 2 large NZ-wide private schools have folded & a 3rd laid off 6 teachers last week. There are several obvious problems:
#1 the rising NZ$ makes us less cost-competitve with Australia
#2 the obsession of the NZ media with "Asian crime" - and the comparable obsession of the Chinese media for repeating it.
#3 some shonky & greedy practices in the private ELT sector.

IMO NZ in general (& Chch in particular) is still a safe & value-for-money destination for Asian students. OTH the ratio is altering as more students from SEA, Russia & the ME come here. This will be a good thing (for the Chinese students as well) as too many students of the same nationality means they might as well have stayed at home.
