Networking ? Not recruitment for the Trade in Human Flesh ?
What is 'Networking' ? We didn't have that when I was young. Is it allowed in Kuwait ? |

O.K. I gotta jump in here. There are an awful lot of newcomers each year in the the teaching field in Kuwait, and there are a lot of people here that don't know where to go or what to do to socialize here. I do know this is a bonafide above board event-and it's not meant to convert people just because it's at the cultural center connected with the Mosque. It's also not a school trying to get phone numbers of people to bother. I know because I know the person posting and have been to the grand Mosque. Its like the AWARE center in facilitating understanding about the culture and helping people to network at the same time. I'm off my soap box now-who's next? |

my turn -
you'll never find ME at a 'networking' event
i've spend 15 hard long years eyes open , ears too, working hard quietly building relations and contacts in Kuwait (wasta to fill a blackberry, real booze parties, APO priviliedges, the dirt on everyone...) and I'll be damned if some NEWBIE half my age , half my intelligence fressh from the airport wants the information from me
prove your self professionally
stay a while
then you'll learn my real name = my philosophy |

Isn't what you have done all those years actually 'networking?' That is just a relatively new buzzword for making the contacts that helps develop one's wasta.
It is just that those of us who spent many years in the Gulf developed our own 'network.' But, of course, we may choose to be careful with whom we share our hard-won information. I too would be careful about organized things like this.
This board is actually nothing but 'networking'....

For those that still have questions and would like answers. I would reiterate what VS suggested in a previous post.
Why don't you get off the fence and come along, then tell everyone about your experience. |
