I'm interested in doing graduate studies in Thailand, either as an MA-TESOL or a related major. Has anybody done a graduate degree in Thailand, either in English, TESOL, or Thai Studies? Are there any particularly good programs and/or programs to avoid? Thanks very much in advance.

A.B.A.C. is probably your best bet, however avoid a Thai University like the plague, the degrees are about as useful as a motto from a christmas cracker.

Thai's cannot fail any exam and cheating is considered the normal route to achieve your degree pass, the problems begin when the average Thai graduate is asked to actually perform the tasks as specified in their degree.

Thay do not have a clue, stay away and do the course in a Western country my friend. Shocked

Tabitha,

I've heard good and bad things about A.B.A.C., and I've heard good things about Chulalongkorn (sp?) University; have you had any specific experience with either one of them? Thanks in advance,

ABAC University has a good Institute for English Language Education (IELE). They run the Master programs. At this moment they have two programs going on: MA ELT (English Language Teaching) and MA ELL (English Language and Literature). I'm doing the second one. The professors and the courses are good. Total costs: 240.000 for two years. Check the web site: http://iele.au.edu/

Chulalongkorn Universitry has also a couple of interesting oportunities, but is by far more expensive.

Can anyone recommend a website that compares and contrasts various universities in Thailand for Masters programs?

This is an extremely appealing option for me, especially TEFL-related Masters. I plan to stay in Asia for awhile, and doing the program in Thailand would make sense.

I know a few people who were doing the 2 year M.A. Tesol program at Payap University in CMai last year. They seemed happy with it and it seemed very up to western standards.
