I'm surprised to hear that Kuwait Airways runs its own English Training.
KOC, KPC and the ministries all put it in the hands of other companies. Any particular reason for that? Do they have a training centre at the airport? It sounds quite interesting, especially if the flight discounts are good and you like travelling. Don't imagine too many of the students are Kuwaitis, either. |

On the contrary, Sheikh, most of the students would be Kuwaiti given that it is a public company, and working there is like working for the government (i.e. working to the least common denominator). Plus, in the ongoing Kuwaitization program, they would rather see a national take a post even if he or she doesn't speak proper English. Hence, the existence of this program.
If you really like traveling (in Kuwait, who doesn't?), maybe it would be a good deal for you personally... |

Well, I don't know of other Kuwaiti EFL teachers. But I'm referring to the rest of Kuwait Airways staff, who would be either Kuwaiti or in dire need of English language courses.
Boy, aren't we touchy this week. And I thought I had a hard time coping with the summer heat... |

Ah sorry- yes a lot of the staff are Kuwaiti or Indain and many are other expat Arabs.
So why did you say this :
''Plus, in the ongoing Kuwaitization program, they would rather see a national take a post even if he or she doesn't speak proper English''
if you were only referring to the students being Kuwaiti?

Thanks for the reply Sharko. It's 6 years since I was in Kuwait and I seem to remember that most of the pilots and cabin crew were foreigners.
Kuwaitization makes sense but implementing it is difficult, as you've said.
BTW, KA has a good reputation as far as safety is concerned. Hope they don't compromise it for the sake of Kuwaitisation. |

Maybe I'm mistaken. I remember reading once that they were one of the airlines which had never had any kind of mishap. Please fill me in. I do remember a Gulf Air plane went into the sea off Bahrain but don't recall anything as far as KA is concerned. |

When i first came to Kuwait pre-invasion, KA , KOC etc were good jobs (IPE)- you got a car, good hours and discounts.
Re saftey- KA have had a few close shaves recently and had to buy many new planes. they have lost the faith of the customer and this summer I flew BA again. |
