I wouldn't have liked Doha for the same reason that I didn't like Kuwait... you leave the city and there is nothing but rather unattractive flat desert. |
..and billions of stars...
But it's true that the deserts of Qatar and Q8 cannot compare with those of Abu Dhabi Emirate and Oman. |

Goodness. Is this turning into a my desert is better than yours? The view from one side of my house is forest and the view from the other is sea. Much better than sand.
But stars are limited. |

You mean that as a joke, of course, but there is a huge variance in deserts. They vary from the flat ugly boring stretch between Abu Dhabi and Dubai or around Kuwait... to huge beautiful red dunes with ripples like water approaching Al-Ain... to the pebble strewn deserts of Oman decorated with acacia trees nibbled into bonsai by the goats.
Who knew? Not what I expected at all...
I loved traveling between the Emirates and Oman.

I would have agreed with you had I never experienced the topography surrounding Al Ain. The sheer variety is amazing. You can't sail a boat there, unfortunately, and you can't lie in the shade of a towering redwood, but there is still a lot to see.
And you get to see it in relative privacy, which seems to be dwindling these days. |

I agree that the desert can be beautiful but most desert areas I have seen are nothing to write home about...... but I am pisces and like water. |

Aye, dmb, I'll bet you've been "Pisced" a few times over the years!
I find Adam's Ale is best enjoyed with a dram. |

Plain truth - Qatar landscape is a barren wasteland - I lived there for three years - the only green space is at the golf course - i went there a lot for "green" therapy |

Another similarity to Q8. The place is ugly as hell, I can't argue about that. There are some small green spaces along the corniche, but if you go there you have to enjoy large crowds of Indians. |

Hello all...I need some advice.
QP has offered me a job but insists that the contract 'will be ready when I arrive'. Can somebody tell me if this is okay? Is it their usual practice? Can I trust them not to change the terms on my offer letter ( offer e-mail, rather) after I join them?
Rather anxious...advice from people who know Doha/ QP would be most welcome. |
