NETs or PNETs out there, can you give a word on your view of the BAND levels in Hong Kong Secondary Schools? I heard that :

LEVEL 1 are good students. Very Happy
LEVEL 2 are average students. Smile
LEVEL 3 are nightmares... Twisted Evil

What do you think? Have I gotten good advice, could you voice some of your teaching gripes and if given the choice, which band would you choose to teach?

You've got it about right. This is the new banding system- they used to have 5 bands with 5 being the lowest (plus Prevocational Schools and Special schools which were even worse) Now they've merged them into 3. The top Band 1s are very demanding on teachers- student behaviour is good but expectations of results is high. Teachers' experiences vary depending on many factors, not just the levels of the students. Principals have autonomy in their own little kingdoms.
