Hello out there,

I'm new to the forums, although not new to esl cafe!

I'm moving to Brasil in December particularly the Minas Gerais region. I'm looking for any opportunities or schools that anyone may know of in Brasilia?? I teach both ESL and Spanish if that helps.....

Also, any ideas on good language schools to learn Portuguese?

Look forward to any insight you may have!
Thanks!
C

Minas Gerias and Brasilia are two very separate areas.

Is there a particular reason you want to go to Brasilia? I visited Brasilia, and HATED it. Most dull city in all of Brazil. Way too spread out and zoned awfully. One of the worst cases of city planning I've ever seen. It's so bad that I heard any of the government officials who HAVE to live there, fly out of there nearly every weekend in helicopters or planes or whenever possible.

Minas Gerias, on the other, hand would be very good. I've heard nothing but good things about Minas Gerias people and about Belo Horizonte (the main city in that estados).

Thanks Tiger,

Well, my fiance is from Brasilia, that is why I am interested in living there. I appreciate all of your insight though, seeing as I have never been. Some say they love the way Brasilia is structured, I hadn't yet heard anything negative about it.

Thanks! I'll look expand my search a little and check out the cities in Minas Gerais!

A car is a must in BSB due to the distance between things and the constant heat. There are some English schools in Brasilia, like for exemple Wizard. If you're fiance is from BSB, then he can give you some info. I've been to BSB 2 and both times I enjoyed it. Also keep in mind that BSB is the most expensive city in Brasil (or quite close to it). How's your portuguese? All in all, it's a relatively safe, clean and quite yet vibrant city. I'd say you'll have an enjoyable time in BSB.

Cheers.Wink

I was in Brasilia with an Israeli traveler who LOVED it. He saw all the green grass everywhere and buildings all spread out. It is a very car-oriented place. If you want to go from one building to the next, it's a long walk between the two. I think he liked it because he saw buildings and a lot of grass and trees and so spread out.

To me, I liked the bustle of an urban area. I like the cities with all the people and not having to rely on cars. I like to be able to get from point A to point B on foot. If a person likes car culture and a place setup very well for cars, than Brasilia would be a good place for that.

Maybe as I'm from the U.S., I just prefer the public transportation and walkable cities that exist almost everywhere except for the U.S. and seemingly Brasilia.

Hi,
I was wondering if you'd had any luck in your search. I've also been trying to get to Brasilia for a while now and haven't had much luck finding schools. They seem to be plentiful in Sao Paulo and Rio though. Would appreciate any help. thanx!

I'll be flying in to Brasilia next week!! Hopefully they have a good public transit system, I was going to take my road bicycle but it was stolen in San Francisco the day I went to get my visa....it was a learning experience, so much for my street creds, I was schooled. Anyways I am kinda looking for other English speakers to help me find my way around, I will be living with some native speakers who are friends of my family, their English is good but limited. My e-mail is [email protected] Smile
