at least for those of us with eu passports. i'm not sure why everyone here is always so negative about the possibilities of finding work in germany. i lived in berlin for a year, and, while it was a struggle for a start, once you're established, the work flows in. ok, sometimes you might have to take a 12 euro job, but it's made up for by the cheap rents, cheap food and so on, plus sometimes you get really lucky (i had a friend who was getting 50 euros an hour a few times a week, plus travelling time). it's fairly likely you won't earn enough to pay tax as well, as the barrier is set pretty high. i didn't find it hard to get private students either. of course, it's not as easy as some countries, but for people who really want to live there, with a little time and effort, and some money saved up so you can survive a couple of months, you should find something.

i spoke to people living in munich who said the same thing.

How much is the tax barrier? What about health insurance too?

From what I hear, it's difficult for non-eu citizens. I think most of the people complaining about the job market are Americans, who are finding it increasingly difficult to find decent paying jobs in Europe lately.

None-the-less thank you for the optimistic post. It seems like a lot of teachers who come to this board get discouraged, and I agree with you that if they just put forth the effort they can probably find a position and avoid starving to death (as one person put it).

Not if they can't work legally in the country where they are aspiring to work. It DOESN'T work.
