Feels like a new country, I actually saw 3 people smile whilst walking down the street in town.
There is hope.
Anyone else noticed? |

Poland under Tusk?
I don't see many of the Babci smiling!
Radio Maryja is constantly going on about how disastrous the Tusk government is, even though they've only just formed a cabinet and haven't yet had time to do anything. They probably even blame PO for the recent bad weather. Meanwhile, it's fun to see the losers PiS tear into each other like ferrets in a sack.
Unfortunately for Rydzyk and the Moherowy Ninjas, Poland is a democracy and they're stuck with the elected govt of PO for now. They cannot even change that by appealing to a higher power (Bog) but that won't stop them trying. |

If we're laughing then the guys who are over here with us in the UK seem very happy and laughing for some reason. Is it the election result or the fact that they are seperate from the effects that makes them, laugh? |

Most of you boys don't have any idea about Polish politics. I don't mean to sound patronizing, but the fact is that the last government was made up of people who didn't cooperate with communist regime of the past. That is not the case with the new government. In fact, they are not new; they are the old UW and UD party. They are socialists. They are Moscow friendly and EU fanatics. Typical pinko material. Very popular. |

So are you saying that Tusk collaborated with the communists?
I guess that's why he was in Solidarnosc in the early 80s, and why he spent all the 80s doing donkey work because, as an opponent of the communist regime, he couldn't get any work befitting his education (graduate of history at the university of Gdansk).
Actually, it's Pis's policies that are much closer to socialism than PO's - that is how Tusk roasted Kaczynski in the Wielka Debata (Kaczynski claimed that economic liberalism and freedom had no place in Poland). PiS's policy was to throw money at people who might be induced to vote for them and complain that everybody who left the country in search of a better future were good-for-nothings who couldn't find work in Poland! Their opposition to the flat tax is as strong as Hugo Chavez's might be but I guess the flat-tax and privatisation are policies of socialists and pinko material.
EU fanatics?
That explains how it was PO that came up with the slogan - 'Nice or Death'.
Typical PiS material. Very popular. |

Take it easy. There's no reason to shout.
Tusk was not a collaborator like Walesa, Michnik, Kuron, Gieremek and Mazowiecki, however, he was present at the 1993 removal of the only right wing government in Poland's post WW II history.
Do take into account Poland's experience with socialism. |

Good to see the same old tired discredited lies that PiS specialise in. And ironic that they should be repeating the same lies which were created by the communists they claim to hate so much. |

Discredided by who? Do you mean by the mass media?
Consider this; the number one newspaper in the country(Gazeta Wyborcza) is editored by Adam Michnik. He is one of the 'heros' who brought about changes in Poland. In fact, he has never had anything good to say about Poles or Poland and his brother is a Marxist criminal hiding in Sweden.

Agent 'Bolek' Walesa jumped over the fence in a shipyard and brought down the Soviet regime. Yeah, right.
You have a lot to learn.

PO's campaign promise sure didn't last long. Did it?
Privatisation? What is there to privitise that hasn't been privitised? All the key sectors have been given to old party members already.
Oh, wait. Pawlak has recently promised the Russians that they can enter the energy market. The sell out continues. |

24 companies including, PMF and PKO, worth about 200 billion PLN in total.
I wouldn't say that was nothing.
The problem if anything is with the timing. Since a year ago there has been a substantial increase in the risk premium owing to the unfolding credit crisis affecting sentiment. Banks are reluctant to lend money and so the private equity firms who were often active buyers have more or less been frozen out of the market. Even the bullish WIG has been shown to be vulnerable to this. That means whatever's on the block will be much harder to shift at a solid price than it was just a few months ago. So, in short, the strongest argument against Privatisation at the moment is that the timing sucks.
As for the flat tax, well, it's not my job to be PO's house rep on this forum but they hardly seem like masters of their own destiny on this. If they can't get it through parliament and past the presidential veto because of strong opposition from just about everyone else then there's little they can do without the absolute majoity required.
Pawlak selling Poland's energy sector lock, stock and barrel to the Russians? Ah yes, that would be Dziennik - the house paper of PiS, giving their translation of an interview in the Russian newspaper Kommersant where Pawlak stated that Poland was open to capital investment from the East.
Strategic energy companies such as PKN Orlen and Lotos are protected from hostile takeover by law, and Pawlak himself has already gone on record to deny Dziennik's allegations that the energy sector is going to be parcelled off to the Russians.
There's nothing wrong with allowing some investment, even from Russia, and it's a trivial matter to prevent Gazprom and Rosneft swallowing everything up because this provision is already present in Polish law. Still, if it sounds like a good story and it can be used to smear the govt, why not publish it? |
