Anyone have any information on them or their schools? I'm thinking of changing locations, from Korea to Taiwan and want to know EVERYTHING I can before I set foot in the country.
Thanks a lot

Kate

You should have no problem finding info on Hess. Just type in Hess and do a search and focus on the Taiwan forum.

I am a newbie here but from what I have read, it's a 50/50 gamble working with Hess.

I have, however, read a few Hess children's text books and there are quite a few grammar mistakes in some of them. So who knows?

Wonder's right - these boards will be about 50/50 for and against schools like HESS.

I think that it really depends on the individual as far as what you want from your teaching. HESS, and the other big chains, will give you everything you need to get yourself into the groove and will process everything for you so that you need not worry about too much when you arrive. They will generally have training and support which may or may not be an advantage.

The downside is that they are large, well established schools and as such may not show much flexibility in some regards. Pay rates arent the highest when you start out, but considering that you know that you will actually get paid what you are promised, I think that you could do a lot worse.

Most complaints about these schools tend to come from personality clashes, people experiencing culture shock and who possibly should never have come to Asia, and those that feel a bit cheated when they realise that there are others out there earning more than what they are per hour. I havent really seen a lot of solid criticisms or problems associated with big chain schools. Having said that I may have just opened the floodgates!
