Great to see that enough interest in teaching in Colombia has generated a seperate board. Look forward to many insightful posts.
Colombia is the second largest South American nation in terms of population and I believe the third largest Spanish speaking country in the world. It also has several large cities.
How is the ESL market in cities outside of Bogota?
With concerns over violence somewhat less pronounced has there been an uptick in ESL opportunities? How does the Visa process work?
Good luck to all who participate and contribute here. I look forward to the Colombia forum becoming a valuable resource. |

Very nice!
This is another forum, (much like the Ukraine), that could really use a transfer of all the many Colombia threads into this forum.
Glad to see Colombia have its own forum though, it's one of the countries I always like to keep informed about. |

yes, saludos a Colombia in the next decade, Colombia will become more and more important for trade that goes Northward. with VZ, EC, Peru, and Bolivia all adopting the new "Boliviarian" mindset and rejecting almost all trade with the North...Colombia will be changing.
i've even read articles about many Colombians that had good jobs, lifestyles, etc in Miami moving back to Colombia.
with Chavez cutting all ties politically and economically with Colombia, there will be a new Colombia in the next 10 years (i hope) and Chavez getting snubbed on the FARC trade, is even better....icing on the cake.
Felicitaciones, Colombia! Si Se puede |

Great points John,
One minor clarification. Peru has not bought into the Bolivarian revolution. The U.S. just ratified a new free trade agreement with Peru and while President Garcia isn't as much of a shill for Western imperialism as the last time he served in the 1980s, he is still at great odds with Chavez & Co. as evidenced by the hostile 05 election campaign against Hugo's choice Ollanta.
But right to say that Colombia is an ever increasing trade partner and more importantly U.S. investment is booming there(big feature write ups in Financial Times and The Economist). Politically, it should remain in the pro-west column for the forseeable future. |

yes, you're right nineisone....Peru slipped in, i forgot they had just signed a new FTA with the US, bypassing all the other Andean countries...
they're not stupid, they know tourism, fish, fruits, etc will increase with the other Andean countries turning their back and living in the 18th century with their new "Bolivarian states".....
good luck to VZ, check back in 20 years...we'll see how you're doing when 30% of US cars are electric |

yes, i knew sooner or later there would be some releases....Chavez is pushing hard for this, he likes to negotiate with criminals, murderers, etc...he should be trying to boost his country's trade....they don't even have milk on the shelf, and he's on the phone with the FARC?
but, he made such an extravagant event out of the first release, with Oliver Stone in the helicopter, French diplomats, Brazilian officials....and the FARC just turned their jeeps around and went home.
sort of like in the NFL, scoring a touchdown in the final 2:00, and it's called back for holding |

JohninMaine---you seem very optimistic that the TLC is good for Colombia. Living here it seems like globalization is a major part of what is hurting Colombia and the TLC will will just make the rich people wealthier and the poor will stay the same. |
