So, which region of Spain has the best food, do you think? I mean, bull parts in sauce aside (gosh, this auto-censor is quite sensitive, isn't it?), Spain is famous for good food. In Catalonia they are extremely proud of "bread with tomato" which for the less imaginative is bread rubbed with... tomato (and olive oil, pepper, etc). They eat this marvellous dish with cheese and pieces of sausage. Amazing. Actually, I really like this food, but I get defensive when students tell me that the cuisine in my country is laughable... Any favourites from anywhere else in the peninsula?
Thanks. You've been a great audience. |

You'll get many disagreements from people, but I believe the best food is in Catalonia and Pais Vasco. You have of course the world-famous Paella (which comes from Valencia), and also plenty of great fish dishes in Pais Vasco (the way they cook Cod is splendid, try their Bacalao).
Another favourite of mine is Cocido which is like a stew...you can find this all over Spain but it comes from the Castilla y Leon region. |
