Hi all,

I've read a bunch of posts about going down and finding a job without paying to get a TEFL certification or something similar, and I think that's what I'm going to do (I have a BSEd and have taught in a public school for two years). My partner just got a job in Porto Alegre so I'm going to move down there and try and get a job. Never been there before, but it seems like a pretty affluent area and I'm not too worried about finding a job - should I be?

Any advice concerning visas, etc? And what do you do when your 6 months are up - how easy is it to get another travel visa? Or how easy is it to get a work visa?

Also - any advice on good inexpensive Portugese software/classes?

You might want to contact Charles Taylor, in Porto at [email protected].
He communicated with me last year about work there- He runs an English School.
I worked in Porto more than 20 years ago, at ICBEU, and it was a well organized place to work.
As far as visas, at that time, I worked 6 months on a tourist visa, but to get a work visa at that time was difficult, even with a letter from the school.
I now have residence status in Brazil through marriage- but don't recommend that.
I'm in Saudi now, saving cash to return to Brazil,
Good luck
