Well those who find no social life can always go back to their bijou residence and listen to their Judy Garland records.

the forum ain't bin negleced, da problem is lottsa Qatar postings get pulled, here today, gone tomorra - a lotta stuff about QU disappeared -even stuff that ain't offensive, just tellin it like it is it kinda makes ya wonder what's goin on...

the real problem in this place is traffic & expenses - the cost of livin is real high & salaries just don't keep up wid da risin prices

it takes forever to get places but if yer lucky and live near a mall or shopping zone ya can get most of yer stuff done there

there's lottsa places ta go but they cost, best thing is make a community life & party wid dem - that's the only way ta survive.

Would anyone please tell me what Gay life is like in the Gulf?!
I'd just like to know what I'm getting into.
Thanks.

I think the last time they executed somebody for being gay was 2003. I know of plenty of cases of people being flogged so if you're into heavy S&M then maybe the Gulf is a legitimate outlet.

Dear EG Boy,
I lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for quite a while, but never in the UAE or Qatar.
Though I'm not gay, a good number of my colleagues were, and I hope you won't mind if I offer some rules I learned by observing their mistakes
( I knew four teachers who were arrested and deported, and I heard about others. Strangely enough, none of the ones I knew was flogged, just arrested - which, believe me, is bad enough - and then deported.)

RULES:

1. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER get involved with a "local." There are apparently lots of other nationalities to choose from, but if you become friendly with a local, and the relationship "goes south", you will pay, big time.

2. NEVER forget Rule No. 1

3. ALWAYS be VERY, VERY discrete - completely private. Don't let even "your best friends" know.

4. Avoid mixing alcohol with relationships. Alcohol tends to make you dumb and reckless.

5. Know the penalties and do not doubt that they will be enforced should you get caught.

In my experience, there are an above-average number of gay EFLers in the Gulf, so either they're all very courageous, very dumb, very horny or some combination of the three.

Regards,
John

Best of luck should you decide to go.
