I might be in Thailand for up to3 months - doubt I'll teach, but this board seems to indicate a fairly easy visa process (unlike South Gorea's endless hassles) so maybe I'll change my mind.
After noise of Seoul, I want some peace/quiet/relaxation in a more rural area - also don't need to see gazillions of foreigners.
What are your favorite places in Thailand that fit this description? Oh, and I need a low cost of living, please.

I would say - if you're a beach person head to Ko Lanta on the Andaman coast which is beautiful, cheap, friendly locals and less frantic than nearby Phuket or Phi Phi.
If you're not a beach person, then head to Pai in the north, in between Chiang Mai and Mae hong Son which is small, cheap, quiet, with beautiful scenery and few tourists. |

| Ko Samet is good if you head further south on the island where fewer people bother to travel. Still, it's a touristy place. |

"Pooh-ket" Pooh as in Winnie.
I think the Brits pronounce it like "Fu", but may be wrong.
I would recommend Krabi, south of Phuket. It has been about 8 years since I was there so it might have changed. I hope not. |
