I might be in Thailand for up to3 months - doubt I'll teach, but this board seems to indicate a fairly easy visa process (unlike South Gorea's endless hassles) so maybe I'll change my mind.

After noise of Seoul, I want some peace/quiet/relaxation in a more rural area - also don't need to see gazillions of foreigners.

What are your favorite places in Thailand that fit this description? Oh, and I need a low cost of living, please.
THANKS

I would say - if you're a beach person head to Ko Lanta on the Andaman coast which is beautiful, cheap, friendly locals and less frantic than nearby Phuket or Phi Phi.

If you're not a beach person, then head to Pai in the north, in between Chiang Mai and Mae hong Son which is small, cheap, quiet, with beautiful scenery and few tourists.

Try Ko Samet. Last time I was there it was a good island for relaxation.

Ko Samet is good if you head further south on the island where fewer people bother to travel. Still, it's a touristy place.

"Pooh-ket" Pooh as in Winnie.
I think the Brits pronounce it like "Fu", but may be wrong.

I would recommend Krabi, south of Phuket. It has been about 8 years since I was there so it might have changed. I hope not.
