WARDENS' NOTICE 02/04
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) revised the Travel Advice for Saudi Arabia on 16 February. The detailed advice is available at www.fco.gov.uk/travel or on the Embassy's website www.britishembassy.gov.uk/saudiarabia via the short cut menu.
Following terrorist attacks in May and November 2003 we continue to believe that terrorists remain determined to carry out further attacks in Saudi Arabia, and that these may be in the final stages of preparation.
We advise British nationals against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia. People who travel to, or remain in, Saudi Arabia should maintain the highest level of vigilance. You should take all necessary steps to protect your safety and ensure you have confidence in your individual security arrangements.
If we receive further information which affects the security of the community or the advice contained in this Notice, we shall tell you immediately.

Well...how many times have we heard such warnings only for nothing to happen?
Having said that, they did (sort of) predict the second Riyadh bombing.
And all that stuff about 'hihg lesvels of vigilance' well, they've been saying that for years. And what does it mean, exactly?
I suppose in fairness to the Foriegn Office and similar bodies, they're damned if they do, dammed if they don't. Issue apparantly baseless warnings and they get accused of scare mongering, do the opposite and they get accused of not caring about citizens' safety.
I suppose if I were them, I'd be over cautious too. |

There's a Suburban driving around somwhere in Saudi with about a ton of explosives inside. The Saud government has issued its description and number plates.
Don't take much too conclude that somebody wants to blow somebody up! |

Interesting that the GMC Suburban is the vehicle of choice, not just of this group of alleged terrorists, but also of many bearded mutawaa types and sundry other Islamists and Saudis of a religious persuasion. The more worldly seemt o go for the Chevrolet Caprice. |
