Has anyone in the UAE ever heard of Liwa Private School in Al Ain? Would appreciate any info as I cannot find much online. Thanks! |

Liwa School built by Bin Harmal company, a big contracgtor. Quality of facility is very good. Education program appears intact--nice teachers--but lots of problems. Teachers are hounded at every turn in their professional, private lives. (Teach what we say, make changes in presentations, serendipitous, lots of "spies" at every turn on campus. What time were you home last night? You need to work this evening and this weekend, again, for no additonal pay). School is run by a Mdm. "Dr."
Sharene (?), humorless POW camp matron type, questionable academic credentials, lousey teacher, terrible school administrator. Hounds faculty and staff, many promises made (pay, benefits, other relocation, compensation and the like), few kept. Even so-called contracts, letters of agreement not worth much.
Sharene is colleague of Sami Anwar, who has run ESL program into the ground at Adu Dhabi U. (See previouis messages for this horror story).
Power the behind the throne at Liwa is the same Dr. Muthanna of Abu Dhabi U (built and owned by same company). Bin Harmal and its henchmen administrative staff have absolutely No interest in education, only in profits gleaned from fat building contracts from the government and other so-called investors.
Bottom line: A new low in the regional education game, even by so-called ME "standards." A definite stay-away. |

It just cracks me up when I hear an Administration called HENCHMEN...i love it!
But it is also sad that we are seeing more and more crap places popping up on Daves Site...
Whadda ya think shall we begin a BLACK LIST For the Middle East.... |

A timely reminder to professionals considering a move to the UAE. Avoid private institutions in Abu Dhabi Emirate. Government institutions are very good and are largely run along western lines. You just would not find the same sort of characters (gay-sex fiends, Sadam Hussein prodogies, incompetent bafoons etc) that have been mentioned in this and the adu thread, in government institutions.
Dubai is a different story and there are several successful private institutions there (such as the University of Wollongong) worth considering.
It is also a far more cosmopoliton Emirate with very progressive, forward-looking leadership. Almost a different country. |

Retro, I agree with you on the Dubai being a different country part, but you're way off on the AD government schools. They have their own set of serious problems. |
