Hi!
Just returned from Bogota and would like to recommend the Platypus Hostel for backpackers and the Platypus Casa for flashpackers :

Just wanted to quickly add that I stayed in the hostel 1 night in a dorm room (17,000). the second night I stayed in the Casa and payed 60,000 for a single room. They have this room advertised at 100,000 but if you contact the owner beforehand then you should receive the 'discounted' price.
Herman, the owner, is an excellent resource for information on Colombia btw.
Candelaria can be dodgy at night so always take a taxi after dark or walk in groups!

The Platypus is definitely OK though if you stay longer youre better of renting a private room. Cost between 200 to 300 000 a month bills included.
Personaly I find the Candelaria safe enough but then I might just have been lucky.

Absolutely agree.
I was just on Bogota for a few days so for me their location was ideal.
Longer-term though you would definitely need to find a private room or small apartment.
During the day Candelaria was very safe.
At night it has the potential for being dangerous.
If you travel in numbers though or take taxis then you shouldn't have any real problems.
Ah, I miss that coffee here in Prague
