Are there any jobs coming up in Finland? I have read the journal entries but would like to hear from teachers who are there now, if anyone is reading this. Is Finland as excellent as I suspect it is?

I was there once above the Arctic Circle. Lots of reindeer, not sure how they'd pay, maybe 2 Rudolf burgers/hour.

Seriously, I suspect Helsinki would have a small EFL market there.

I saw a job advertised at the University of Oulu a couple of years back but I can't remember WHERE I saw it. Maybe you could search their website. The conditions sounded half-way reasonable. Met a girl from Spain who taught Spanish at a Finnish university and she loved it. If you're not a fan of the great (cold) outdoors, might be a trifle dull.
Good luck with it Rolling Eyes

As Finnish is not one of the Major Languages of the World, most Finns speak Swedish (official second language) and also excellent English.

Unless you have an advanced graduate degree and find a posting with the universities there (they don't post here), I doubt you will find anything.

Finland is gorgeous, has beautiful woman and is cheaper than Iceland, but not much.

There are several business-oriented language schools in Helsinki (a dozen or more). When I was (briefly) in that market in the mid/late 90s, it seemed that the schools hired mostly uncredentialed native speakers with residency - generally folks who had married Finns. It seemed very uncommon that these schools would hire non-EU nationals who didn't already have residency (except maybe gray or black, short term and low wage), tho one did recruit at TESOL '95 in Long Beach.

Most classes were given at the locations of the various businesses that were their clients.

ELT jobs exist in Finland, but seem few and far between, particularly for folks from outside the EU.

Good luck! It's a delightfully civilized country. I'd gladly pay their taxes if I could relocate my present job there.
