I am just about to make a decision as to which school I am going to choose.

All have very similar offers, but I can't find any info on any of them anywhere on the net and in the forums. So...

I am looking for some meat on the following schools located in Tainan County: Happy Valley American School, SanJohn and Todd's English School. They are also pushing me to sign right away from here (I am in Montreal) without actually having seen the schools or met anyone there. Is this common? How can I choose the right one and trust these guys if all I know from them is their own "save face" opinion?

Finally, I read from Aristotle something that sounded like "Taipei is the only place where there's a little justice" and "anybody without experience should think twice about moving anywhere but Taipei on this island". Isn't that a little exagerated? Taipei does not appeal to me at all.

That's it. Thanks.

You need to be in country before you agree to anything. There is only one reason why they want you to sign a contract before you arrive. Come here, have a look around and decide for yourself what is the best option. There are a mutitude of teaching jobs here.
If you don't want to beleive me have a look for yourself.

You say: There is only one reason why they want you to sign a contract before you arrive.
Which is?

You also say: You need to be in country before you agree to anything. Easy to say. I am sure you felt a little insecure the first time you ever went to Asia. I know there are a lot of jobs available there, and I am coming to Taiwan at a good time (1st week of June), but why would it be automatically worse to sign a contract from abroad? I mean, the guy is being super nice, he sent me pictures of his school and staff, etc. Isn't it as much a gamble either way (sign here and now or wait to be there)? Besides, he is offering to pick me up at the airport and help me find housing accomodations. This is securing my wife quite a lot. Is this typical bullcrap from their part? Am I falling in a trap?

Still, I am sure some of you out there have heard of these schools in Tainan: Happy Valley American School, SanJohn and Todd's English School. How can I get in touch with some who have work there already?

Thanks for your help.

I tell people that they need to be in country before they find a job because a person cannot understand or comprehend the intricacies of working and living in Taiwan, without seeing it for yourself.
If you have never been to Asia before, that is all the more reason to be cautious. By signing a contract abroad you agree to the pre conditions before you know what they are.
At the very least, tell the perspective employer that you want to go and have a look before you sign. Talk to the other foreign teachers there and get a good idea of the situation.
