I will be staying in Lima for a few days and would like to know where is a good neighborhood to stay in that is close to alot (walking distance, or bike) of things.

I am not a recent graduate looking to just get drunk all of the time. I want a nice bohemian/artistic/ cheap kind of solution. I am very simple and easy to please. I just want to be located somewhere kind of cool. I have heard Miraflores has alot of hostels and Barranco has some too. However i am not a scared tourist who needs to be in a touristic stronghold for fear of venturing out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks! Shocked

Miraflores is a popular spot. People on www.expatperu.com might be able to point you out to other places.

BUt I'd recommend that, or Surco. Lima's huge, so if you're in a far off area, unless you know the bus system, you'll have to take taxis all the time.

Your right, don't be scared. You will be when you get robbed the first time. God willing, it won't happen, but if it does learn from it. I did.

Speaking of being robbed. DOn't carry lots of valuables. Use a fake wallet, with cardboard and a bit of cash. that way they can lift that one, and you'll keep your real one.

Still I carry no ID and only about 2 dollars when I go out. My most valuable thing is a paperback agenda and my cell.

In all honesty, it happened the day before I posted that reponse to you. I realize my error. They didn't find my money, but my shorts were ripped apart. I just didn't appreciate the knife. They could have just threatened me and that would have been that. Just remember, "No tengo plata!" It worked for me anyway.

Just take the same precautions you should take everywhere and always look confident and purposeful as you are walking around.
