It seems all these dam agencies want is unqualified, near English speakers.

I had a nice job as a center manager lined up, but it fell apart. The reason being they are insolvant before they even start.

Well back to job hunting. If nayone has any suggestions, please forward them to me.

Chris..I thought you were going to work as a private tutor and also offer your curriculum and teaching to schools? Has this changed?

Aha, forgot to reply.

Yes, back on track for going back to full time private tutoring. Just finally finished marking all the exams from my uni. courses. NEVER AGAIN.

I have decided to advertise for private students, alas my dam pay cheque is late, can't do much until that arrives.

TT programmes, well plenty of demand, just getting the cash out of them is diffiuclt. Everyone wants something for nothing, or the old, well we need to have x people for the workshops, we will tell you when we have enough applicants.

Well to date, the situation is......"drum role please" When I get my final piggy cheque, I will be teachign small groups from my home.

Just need to find and hire some cretins to hand out flyers in the street. Maybe a post office direct mail shot too.

I will let you all know how it goes.

The religously inclined may pray for a swift deposit of my final pay cheque too.

Chris, have you tried advertising in local mags, like HK Magazine, local business mags, etc.?? I knew someone a few years ago who had a lot of responses from an ad in HK mag classifieds (the pull-out at the back).

I tried that may years ago

It didn't seem to work for me.
I think flyers handed out in the street and direct mail may be the best for me.

I am only looking for a small number of students.

have you tried the clubhouse route....many apartment blocks have a clubhouse or some sort of facilities for the residents....

they often offer classes to the residents...english classes for example

large groups paying $150 each for an hour lesson...it can really add up...

i have a class of kids at a clubhouse...once a week...three groups each for an hour....i pay a rental fee for the room and keep the rest...some clubhouses will take a percentage of your fee to provide the room and do the accounting...in fact they will insist on it...I got around this by having the mother of one of my kids rent the room...

Well, I just called my last employer and my pay cheque is ready for collection.

So I shall get the advers underway. For the mailboxes and flyers. I expect the resonce top be 0.05% to the adverts. Unfortunetly at that calcualtion I would need about 100,000 pcs. I am starting my initial advertising campaign with 10,000. It is a nice round number.

ClubHouse eh? hmm that didn't occur to me.

Well to start with I thouht I would just start from home. Five to six students per group, at $100 an hour.

I hope the price is attractiv enough, as I have no idea what current rates are now.

I'm pretty sure it's the $100 an hour part that might have gotten to him.

People pay about $1600-$2000 for 4 lessons in a lot of language centres. You could get away with four times that amount! I'd say $250 would even be a good deal.

Of course, you can ask for more....but if you do..then parents want more personalized attention....more kids in your class...then your rates have to go down...

10 kids...125 each...you are making 1250 an hour...I am not sure who would complain about that....
