My husband and I have applied for jobs at the ALC in Rabat, and we are planning on applying to the one in Marrakech. We are trying to find out more about these schools, especially the one in Rabat. What we have learned so far has been quite positive, but we have upcoming interviews so we'd like to be well prepared. Does anyone know anything about salaries, class sizes, reputability, chances for advancement, etc.?
We also are interested in finding out about the cost of living in Morocco, again especially in Rabat. For example, how much does rental of a 1 bedroom apartment cost there, and can one easily live without a car?
If you would be willing to share any information with us, it would be greatly appreciated.

in Rabat you don`t need a car.
It could be possible to be promoted. I remember a woman who was, but she had to relocate to the school in Agadir.
I was in Rabat in 1996, and I don`t remember classes being big. Generally no more than 12-15. Except for the one for teenagers only, which may have had 20-25, but was only once a week, on Friday afternoon. |

hello,
I might not be able to help with the schools but I can definitely give you a couple of details about cost of life in Rabat or Marackech. Both cities are similar in size and population with Marrakech being the most touristy one.
Rabat is very peaceful as it is home to the government and the embassies. Not much happens there in terms of entertainment but casablanca is only one hour away if you need your fixx. Marakech has a lot more to offer entertainment wise but the temperature in the summer is ungodly....
you should expect to pay between 1500-3000 dirhams ( 1MAD = 9USD give or take) for a one bedroom appartment if you can manage to avoid the typical tourist traps. ask the school to assist you in finding lodging.
you don't need a car as because cabs are not hard to comeby and they are fairly cheap (max 10 MAD a ride ususally) I have some family in Rabat and Marackech so I might be able to help if you have any further questions.
oh..almost forgot, you should expect to spend about 2000 MAD in groceries everymonth if you don't eat out all the time.. Alcohol will substancially increase that amount and remember that stores do not sell it after 8:00 P.M. |
