HI !
I am preparing to move to KSA next september (to work in Riyadh). I am in Europe right now and would like to know about the procedure to take my car to KSA. I think it is better to take my car with me because I have been told that cars in KSA were very expensive. Could someone advise me?? Thanks |

Anyone who has had to work through bureaucracy in KSA would advise against this.
Who is your employer ? Some of them do this kind of thing for you. If you have to jump the hoops yourself............................
Wow !
Do you plan to drive through Eastern Turkey, Syria and Jordan ? How safe is that ? I would have reservations about driving through Eastern Turkey.
My own gut feeling is that you should buy a vehicle in Saudi. |

Scot, Why do you have reservations about travelling through Eastern Turkey? I've travelled extensively throughout that area and don't see why. |

Eastern Turkey ? My question is about safety. I thought these guys in the PKK were involved in an armed uprising against the State ? |

Actually, I should travel by plane and plan to ship my car from a European port. |

Scot, things are all quiet on the Eastern front. Or at least they were last year. maybe things have changed recently with the PKK trying to get in the act -post Saddam |

Cars are a lot cheaper in Saudi than they are in Europe. Maybe less true for second hand cars at the bottom of the range, but you'd spend more than the price of a second hand car getting yours over.
You can get a new car on the never-never for SR800 a month, no sponsor needed.
If you can find your make of car in Saudi it'll be cheaper to sell the one you've got and buy another here, and if you can't you don't want to bring it over because you'll never get the spare parts. |

I would listen to the Guru Jones if I were you.
Have you any idea of the headaches involved in clearing things through customs here ? |

Shipping or driving a car to KSA is madness.
Cars are very cheap here.
There are also many good deals these days as expats are leaving regularly and are desperate to sell. |
