I can unfortunately relate - I'm located in the 'grass-is-greener-here' Netherlands -

of course it's green, it gets watered all too regularly Rolling Eyes

(though I have to admit today's spectacular - hopefully this high pressure's heading your way and you'll get some sun tomorrow;))

To Glenlivet: AUGURI! Congratulations, well done, and can I just say that I'm glad Italy got you and not Spain!! I am so excited for you, and I hope everything goes to plan. I'm sure you'll be letting us know how you get on.

Spiral: after 30+ temps it has now cooled down. Sth about an anticyclone from Spain. Just as it was beginning to be beach weather too... Where are you exactly in NL, anyway?

I used to think it was quite funny, when I lived in the English Lake District, to hear tourists (usually Americans - sorry!) saying "it's beautiful but doesn't it ever stop raining?". Green and pleasant land with LAKES!!! Of course it bloody rains Twisted Evil

Blimey, you guys need a chat function!

Maastricht is lovely Spiral. Perhaps the nicest city in NL?? At least the people there are the loosest, most laid-back of the lot. I once taught a couple of guys from there - typical Limburgers and a very healthy two-fingered kind of attitude towards the uptight "Calvinist to the underpants" Dutch of the north... Phew - a long sentence, but hope you'll forgive.

Glenlivet - have you got any accommodation sorted out? Hope the school will give you a bit of help for settling in, getting tax numbers and so on. Don't forget you'll also need some sort of health insurance for at least your first year.

Let me know if you're ever down in Marche area!

Continuing the chat Smile
Yeah, I have lived here for a total of 6+ years now - though on and off. I really like the city. As for Limburgers...well, 'laid back' is one way to describe them. There are some others, less positive. But that's true everywhere, I think. God knows there have been years when I wasn't proud to be an American Rolling Eyes

However, overall, this is a very nice little international city with lots of cultural stuff going on and a university that is cutting edge in some important ways. I'm pretty happy with it.....

and am also feeling quite exposed on a personal level...hope none of this openness will come back to bite me later on, through stalkers or critics on the forum Mad

We're planning on driving down with the van and camping in July, should give us time to sort out accommodation etc. Yes, the school has promised help with the logistics. Apparently we qualify for healthcare from day one - if not we have our UK health cards (ex E111) which should see us through.

No doubt we'll bob about a bit (1500km in a day quite normal for us) so we should have a chance at a group cuddle - if SueH can make it with her well toned thighs, so much the better Very Happy
