There are two English First schools in Chengdu, one of them, in the center of town is a pretty good place to work, for an English school. The DOS is a good guy to work for, no messing around, no hints, just clear communication.

Web pays better, and you don't have to go through the hell of teaching little brats with their whole family looking on at the weekends. My friend who worked at the central EF didn't have great things to say about it in comparision with the other positions that you can get. |

I once heard that Web requires you to stay in the center for the whole day = 8 hours ... |

One concern that I have and where the horror stories seem to come from is the work visa.
Can they get the work visa?
And does anyone know what the pay is like? |

No "Z" at web ....
99.99% of private language centers DO NOT provide visa and accommodation in China. They operate illegally, do not pay taxes, do not pay insurances, do not have a business license even if some have nice offices... |

Say no to EF. EF is the Mcdonalds of teaching with slogans like if you have time to lean you have time to clean. EF kisses the parents butts so you have to put up with all their input. |

I finally agree with the Sultan and wonder who Raindrops is to make such a claim.
I personally know that Web, at least in Shanghai, will provide a work visa/Residence Permit. Besides them, Wall Street and Only English also got me the same.
As for Raindrops' hearsay - it is somewhat true. The above mentioned training centers generally require the "facilitators" to arrive at the center at 1pm. The "teachers" then "prepare" for 1 hour. The 1st class is at 2pm. They will conduct either 5 or 6 lessons, depending on the center (Wall St. = 6; Web & Only = 5) until 9pm.
Of course, some folks were scheduled the day shift. Weekends were basically the same, but started/ended earlier.
I was free to leave the building if I wasn't in class. |

I arrived on a L, EF extended it, and then sent me to Hong Kong for a Z. All is good.
Yep, like all businesses, EF sucks up to the client.

Talk to teachers at Web in central Chengdu. They are not required to be there apart from for teaching hours. I also worked there part time and witnessed this fact. Other schools in Chengdu like Meten may require this, but Web don't. As to the visa, I don't know. |

If you are in Chengdu, just go in and meet the DOS. Inside the teacher's is the timetable for all the teachers. It is varied.

Looks like a local recruiter has hijacked this thread ... |
