There will be an attempt tomorrow to enter the Guiness Book of World Records for the most couples kissing in one place tomorrow in the Mexico City Zocalo, as part of the Besame Mucho charity concert. The current world record is 32,000 people in London kissing at one time - which I'm sure is beaten daily in the subway system here.
Come on out and be a part of history. Flying solo? Then grab the nearest chilang@ and plant a wet one at the appointed hour. 3 PM Saturday. |

Carlos Martinez of Guinness World Records verified the record of 39,897 people who entered the gated kissing area of the city's Zocalo main square on Valentine's Day, besting Weston-super-Mare, an English town that set the previous kissing record in 2007. |
hmm...odd number. Did one person kiss him or herself, or were there some three-ways going on?
I thought the number would be much higher. I missed the kiss-off but made the Vicente Fernandez concert - there is nothing on this earth like listening to Vicente sing live - and there were at least 100,000 in attendance. I base that on past announced numbers for other shows in the vast square I've been to.
Great event though...as usual, a fun eveining of free music in the Zocalo. |

And I had a student who claimed there was so much kissing in Mexicos public spaces as there was a so-called kissing germ that went around. Hmmm. There must be a lot of cheating novios. |
