For fish 'n chips, try the Dhow in the foodhall at the old Panda Mall on the highway that runs from Dhahran Mall down past the Holiday Inn. Very nice, and they have mushy peas, too. |

Abu Nawaz behind Tamimi-Safeway on the Corniche.
The shwarma there were awesome until about four months ago.
A huge plate of lamb with spices and cirtus peel, separated from the pickled vegetables by a wall of coriander served on a flatbread and accompanied by a lovely yogurt dip. Awesome.
The other food there is still very very good.
The Dhow, behind Abu Nawaz, is perhaps the most expensive restaurant in Dharahn. SR250 for lobster thermedore.
Phuket, a Thai restaurant, in Kobar is excellent.
The other Thai restaurants are fine but not as good.
There is a very shishi Persian restaurant next to Jarir bookstore.
It's a beautiful restaurant and the food is good.
In Rasheed Mall there is a very nice but very expensive Chinese restaurant called the The Gulf Royal. It's full of expensive fish in tanks and there is an incredible mural of the sky at dusk on the ceiling. Again, quite expensive.
Fudruckers in Rashid Mall was fine and I liked the burger.
Rachid Mall - upstairs there's a big food hall. Avoid McDonalds, however, one of the persian places serves very nice food and wonderful fresh bread but it takes a while to cook. The other places are at best soso.
There's a very nice Indian restarant about thirteen blocks from Safeways where they recently closed the road to resurface it. I know this because the tight wad colleague I was with refused to pay for a taxi and made us walk all the way back to safeways. By the time we'd left the place it was dark and there was a mist.
I've just eaten roast potatoes in goose fat, peas and a farm made lamb and mint pie, washed down with a nice French wine. |

C'mon Uncle Scott, do you want me to go to the BlueStrawberry Restaurant for 'modern British, American, Italian and Indian dishes'!!!! They are the worst dishes in the world!
Your taste is in the wrong side, Uncle Scotty! |

007, Italian cuisine is ranked as one of the best cuisines in the world, and you are calling it the worst? I think you wanted to confine your "worst dishes" comment to the British and American ones, but you forgot to remove Italian and Indian. |

Palm Grove delivers some very nice Indian food. Try the chicken kholapuri if you can handle spicy food.
The restaurant at the top of Pattis France is lovely for simple European-style food. They have a Swiss chef.
There is a nice seafod restaurant on the Corniche called Darin.
I thought that La Gondola (sort of behind Corniche Tamimi) had excellent pasta dishes, and the pizza and deserts were fabulous. |

La Gondola is very good but expensive.
There was a truck stop out along the Abquiq highway near the cement works that made a superb chicken curry, albeit with squidgey bits, and the bread was superb.
They had never seen Europeans, so they came out and shook our hands.
Patisse France - I thought the chef looked like a Westerner! The cakes were superb. Overlooking the Corniche with a cup of coffee and some pieces of fancy cake. |

If you feel like having Chinese and are hungry then there is a nice Buffet on the second floor of the building near Jarir Book Store near the Coniche. I think the name is "China Gate".

Applebees, which is situated below ChinaGate, is a souless place. The food is greasy and dull.
Has anyone braved shrimpys where they do the best hummus in Dharahn!?
It's a five minute walk away from Tammimmis but is always full of w/c Saudis. |

Mmmmmm, hummus. I'll have to check it out next time I'm in the area. Love a good hummus.

IMHO, Golden Juice (in the souk area) is one of the best places in town for shawarma and juice drinks. I always wanted to try Shrimpy's, but never had the courage. |

Golden Juice!
I forgot about Golden Juice; yes, it's very nice.
There's a mall almost on the same row, when you go inside you are immediatly confronted by a staircase. At the top of the staircase is a nice cafe that serves incredible smoothies - melon and milk, mango, etc. Delicious! They do a nice selection of breakfast food - sweet cheese with sweet olives and all sorts of goodies in a bap. Yum! |

When one lives in the Jewel of the Eastern Province, the beautiful garden city of Jubail (Industrial City), Dammam does appear rather drab and dusty.
As Dubai falls from favor and the area around Fanateer Mall is further developed, dare I suggest Jubail may soon become the Jewel of the Gulf? |
