Does anyone have any info on the English Department at GUST? Is it an okay place to work, or it a debacle like the foundation department appears to be?
Any insight appreciated.

the english dept has a lot more Ph.D.'s (mainly in Literature) not so much typical EFL types; hence, a differnet kind of atmosphere and sets of expereince
it's ok .....
it itself has been cleaned out in the last few years but after the changes a new kuwaiti Vp was brought in who could undo the advancements
the main compaint is that the eng 101 courses (intro to composition) are 'too formulated', too spoon-fed and too shallow . that and the low level of students 'graduating' from the entensive english department do not really produce students who can write at the college level.
gust wants 'to write across the curicullum' and is adding an engineering department but it's doubtful many students can put together 500 words in a coherent, insightful manner
the literature courses are starting to get on par with what is expected of literature courses at the college level.
the overall atmosphere of chaos at gust - being a permenent state - severely impacts all departments

GUST has been in a permanent state of chaos from the beginning. One disaster after another. It has no credibility even among Kuwaitis, it's a place to dump kids who haven't made it to KU or AUK.

How are things with Foundations now? I'm considering a position and can only find these postings from 2010.
Have things got better/worst/remain the same? Would be v. grateful for a heads up please.
