Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any information about Bahwan CyberTek jobs in Muscat?
They are recruiting for colleges around Oman for the Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Education.
The job advert seems to be pretty thorough/specific/legit.
Any advice greatly appreciated....
Cheers. |

Well... they exist and they recruit for various colleges. Did you do a search? They are not a stellar performer and their reputation isn't that good as you can see from previous posts. But, they are not quite the worst of the lot. If you are trying to get into the Middle East or Oman, it is one option.

Thanks veiledsentiments.
Yes I'm trying to get into Oman, specifically Muscat, although Sohar or anywhere close to the coast might do for the first year.
Any suggestions? |

The fact is that most of these recruiters place teachers around the country. Naturally Muscat is where everyone wants to be, so that is the hardest place to get a position. (a matter of luck and timing I expect) Sur is also on the coast, as are Shinas and Salalah.
The first position is always pretty hard to get unless you have a full and varied CV, so these are good for entry and getting experience with Arabic speakers and the system - such that it is.

There are quite a few jobs advertised with both Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Education.
Can anyone tell me if they are easy positions to get if you are going abroad for the first time? Also are they good employers?
Thanks... |

Nothing, but NOTHING is easy about being recruited by MoM or MoHE.
Read the threads and make up your own mind.
I mean read ALL the threads before you decide to work here.
Good luck,

Duffy is right that the recruiters seem to be in a race for the bottom. Do read all those threads so that you know what you might be getting into... that said... it will get you that first Middle East job to put on the CV. If you are tolerant enough to last out a contract, the next job will probably be better. At least the country is scenic and the students are mostly pleasant, if not terribly... um... academically oriented.

I've heard Bahwan isn't bad as long as you honor your contract. That's the big problem with hiring on with an agency. You have TWO variables instead of one to worry about. Two entities have to please you or you may have to leave a contract early. And if you do....well, look for trouble in a place like the UAE or Oman.
Agency Reality:
Your agency and college could both be good. (25%)
Your agency could suck but your college could be good. (25%)
Your agency could be good but your college could suck. (25%)
Your agency and college could both suck. (25%)
Thems not good odds. |

I definitely agree... which is why I have always advised people to avoid recruiters if they can. But, that first job can be tough to get and these recruiter jobs are a foot in the door - and an entry on your CV - if you can manage to make it through your contract and thus have a reference.

Ultimately, it comes down to turnover and career risk. Go to a place with high turnover and you risk your career in that country, maybe in that region.
Choose wisely. |

Or you just may be on the crest of a new beginning...a rebirth of a college with untold career possibilities.
Wise choice is always good advice. |

Thanks everyone for your advice.....
I'm still looking for private sector stuff in Oman, although a lot of places are very specific about a minimum of two years experience.
Fingers crossed!!
Thanks again! |

If you try to get a job in Oman, get the contract in your hands BEFORE you leave your home country. Bahwan won't give you one beforehand in most cases. If they don't give it to you, try another agency. |

It is actually very rare to have the contract in hand. I was always sent the offer letter - which had all the particulars... and usually didn't see a contract until months after my arrival. What is important is to have - in writing - the salary, benefits, what city you will be in, teaching and office hours... and since some of you seem to key on how quickly you can leave... notification requirements.

Bahwan Cybertek offers excellent pay for EFL Instructors in Oman. Try to get a job with them teaching in Muscat as is the best place to work in Oman |
