My best friend is looking for work in the Middle East or Asia. He has hepatitis C and therefore can't go to a country that has blood tests taken in the country where he would work. Does anyone know of a country in the above areas where he would not be tested, besides Turkey?
Thanks!

It's not a question of taking the blood; it's what they're testing for.

As Bread's suggested, Japan is one country that doesn't yet test. Indonesia also comes to mind for some reason, but I'm not sure so you'd need to check on that (and I myself wouldn't particularly want to work there anyway, though a visit would be nice Smile ).

Very few jobs; maybe the British Council and one or two more.

Doesn't seem to demand a medical certificate.

Also, Turkey doesnt do any kind of medical tests, its kind of Asian(90% - geographically speaking at least)...

As a matter of fact one of my co-workers in Turkey actually had Hep C from his drug using days...I was never that keen on taking a swig from his beer bottle when he offered...

Hep C is only really transmittable by blood to blood contact, which means sharing needles or more likely transfusions.

MOD EDIT

I think Thailand has just started refusing teachers who don't have Hep C/HIV.

I worked at a big primary school in Bangkok last summer. About half the teachers there had no degree, teaching cert, nadda. But what really amazed me was that they had these particular guys teaching kindergarten and even pre-kindergarten.

There is some loophole in Thailand that teachers for very young children need not have qualifications.

In Thailand, the medical check consisted of a doctor in my city (Chaiyphum) taking my blood pressure, listening to my breathing and asking if I had any health concerns. Most of the teachers in my city(about 20 of us) had similar medical checks. Not really that thorough!

The strangest medical check I had was crossing into Cambodia from Thailand in Poipet.

It was the middle of the Swine Flu epidemic and they pulled people out of line at immigration at random and stuck the same instrument in everyones' ears to check for god knows what. They then proceeded to give each of us a card with the local hospital's phone number wirtten on it. "If you have problem call this number, sir. No problem don't call."
