Hi I'm interested in doing a rotation oil gig.
I've got an BA economics and an MA TESOL and 8 years ESL in Japan.
Do I have what they need and where can I see offers for these jobs, recruiters etc...?

Why would you want to leave Japan to go to Africa? Which country in Africa do you want to go to?

I don't think Japan has oil rigs, but even if they do, it can't b compared to the ones in Africa.Take Nigeria and Libya for instance.These are oil rich countries.Also there are lots of oil and gas job vacancies in these counries

Waiting for rescue.

Tripoli airport is out of the question; at least at the moment.

Still on site and will remain here till:

1. it dies down OR
2. the frigate comes offshore OR
3. the street battles in the two towns either side of me recede so I can get to Tunisian border
4. way to airport is more 'secure' and if i hear sufficient number of flights are being laid on

Just wondering when his mercenaries are going to barge their way onto the site.

Got a few hiding places in my mind.

Just to second what ntropy says -and be wise, be lucky and be safe.

Don't know what kind of info you're able to get out there - but think I know your location and the Italians have apparently got some serious military just off the coast. If I am right about your location, I'm sure there are quite a number of Italians with you. Hopefully you won't need to rely on your raft building skills to get off the beach.

Have heard situation not good on desert camps - food running out, army fragmenting into rival groups.

Make sure you post a message when you get out - there's more than a few people pulling for you!

I don't think it's going to die down... The UK gov is talking about evacuation:

"The Foreign Office was facing embarrassment tonight as its first rescue flight for British nationals stranded in Libya was stuck on the tarmac at Gatwick with a mechanical fault. With hundreds of Britons waiting to be flown out of Tripoli airport, the Boeing 757 had still not left after 5pm. It had been due to leave at 12.30pm.

Foreign Secretary William Hague promised to send as many rescue flights to Libya as were needed to evacuate Britons wanting to leave.

Two were due to leave today and a third - if necessary - early tomorrow morning.

At least 300 Britons are in and around the Libyan capital Tripoli, while up to 170 more - mainly oil workers - are in remote desert camps at risk of attack as violence continues.

Royal Navy frigate HMS Cumberland is on its way to the Libyan coast to evacuate Britons around the Benghazi area."

I've read reports of other people being stopped by mercenaries, but being allowed through once it was obvious they were foreigners. Have also read that conditions in the west of Libya v dodgy. Don't know where you are, but if there's anything I can do (from Italy) please let me know.

Thanks for all the info and views. Looks like we are going to miss the frigate, tho. We are far away sigh

Italians are by and large a good bunch of people. Tell them a friend of yours loves it in Italy, and you might get a lift! Seriously though, if you need a "sponsor" in Italy to get on a flight / frigate, let me know.
