Hi all,
I am a new ESL teacher just having completed my TESL certification. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music. I am planning to spend a year in Munich, Germany and was hoping to be able to work teaching English. I have an EU-passport so no concerns for work visas thankfully.
I see much interest for Business English teaching however I as of yet have no in-class teaching experience. I do have experience training and coaching people from previous jobs and tutoring from school.
How reasonable would it be for me to find entry-level teaching jobs in Munich? I got certified with Oxford Seminars and could do a specialization in Business English or Teaching Children. Would one be better than the other?
I appreciate any and all honest advice!! Thanks! |

Oxford Seminars, having no supervised teaching practice (or only with peer trainees) is a bit substandard for this region. CELTA or an on-site equivalent with the key element of real teaching practice, is common.
You might try to get some practice and a letter of recommendation from a student and/or supervisor before coming over, to help offset this lack.
Otherwise, you may find yourself at the bottom of the barrel, hiring-wise. Also, how's your German? If you have functional command of the language, that will help.
Most contracts for this region are Sept/Oct thru June, and holiday time (August) is taken very seriously, meaning that there will be few school directors around to talk to you. Time your job search carefully in order to maximise your chances - perhaps to arrive in late August.
Good luck |
