With the election now over I thought the value of the dollar would increase more but it really hasn't. In past elections doesn't it always get better? It's at about 45 right now which is pretty lousy.

The USD isn't really the most stable currency out there either at the moment. I've been in the Philippines for over a year and a half and havent seen it any better than 49php/1USD. Anywhere between 44.5 - 47 is probably to be expected in the short term unless something crazy happens.

In 2004, when I bought our farm, it was 55php = 1 usd.

For as long as the current government is in place and the economy continues to depend on OFW remittances rather than real economic growth the peso will likely continue to weaken over time.
