| well, i'm three weeks into my job in taiwan, but have not yet recieved my ARC nor do i have a proper visa to work in taiwan with. i'll be leaving at the end fo the month to do a visa run and then suppose i'll be issued with an ARC. my question is, am i responsible for paying taxes at this very moment, not being registered to work in this country? do you begin paying taxes upon receiving hte ARC? and is any of this information accesible on a taiwanese website? warmest regards.... |

From the tax office's point of view you should be paying tax whether you have the ARC or not. Provided your school does everything legitimately then they should be deducting 20% from your pay from the start, not just after your ARC is issued.
You need to be resident in Taiwan for 183 days in a year to qualify for a tax refund. The days of residency are calculated by the stamps in your passport not the date on your ARC.
At the end of the year your employer should give you a tax certificate. Go to the tax office, file a return and you should get a nice refund cheque (after waiting a few months). |
