thats what they do here in syria. i wouldnt be concerned.to set ur mind at rest, confirm with the employer that it is sufficient to show the scanned document to immigration officials upon entry. you may need to show it at the airport upon ur departure from australia.

Basil:

I am working for Amideast in Aden, Yemen. I have been here for 16 months. It is NOT like Saudi without the money. I worked in KSA for 5 years. The Yemenis are wonderful, friendly people. I don't share the same opinion of Saudis. The cost of living is extremely low. Your employer should find you a place to live and pay for it, but if they refuse you can get a place to live relatively cheaply. You probably won't have an elevator or hot water, and the water itself may be turned off at 7 p.m. every day, but these are all small inconveniences. Most of the students I teach are motivated and well behaved.

I think the school your offer is from is brand new, with Yemeni management (ex-Amideast). Unless you have already accepted the other offer, you should consider looking at Amideast's web page if you really want to come to Yemen. (www.amideast.org). The money is not great in Yemen but certainly adequate to cover all your needs.

The only time it was a little dicey here was when the Americans invaded Iraq. For our own safety, we were pretty much confined to the school grounds. Other than for that brief time, I have always felt safe. It's not too easy to get around and see the country, but certainly Aden and Sana'a are very accessible to foreigners.

If you want any more information, please PM me.

I've worked in Yemen twice, for different employers both times.

The first time I did indeed have all paperwork in hand before I left home. The second time I was sent faxed copies for the airlines which got me there. I then picked up a G7 visa at the airport which was pre-arranged and paid by my company.

So it can work both ways.

P.S. Is yours a job for MA holders only, or do you think BAs plus experience are acceptable there>?
