Hello All
Currently Im living in Spain (Madrid) and have been teaching in an academy here for the last 4 years teaching anyone from wee kiddies to adults and preparing for the Cambridge exams so I have a bit of experience.
However, my boyfriend and I are yearning to live in France but Im wondering how easy it would be to find work there. We are looking in the North or North East of the country.
If anyone can give me any information Id be grateful.
Thanks. |

What are your qualifications and what kind of job are you looking for within the ESL world?
IME the French looooove bits of paper and not having the right one can be an issue. Also quite a few English speakers just hop over the channel and settle in the North/North-East so there might be more competition there than, say, in the centre.
Jobs in schools are either as an assistant (usually external application via the British Council or by having a contact at your local rectorat) or as a teacher which means you need to have your CAPES. University jobs are typically as a lecteur or lectrice (rarely advertised but having personal contacts can be a great way to get in) or, if you're doing a PhD as a Maitre de Langues. For university jobs you at least need to have your Bachelors and preferably a Masters as well but it doesn't need to be in English.
Outside schools your looking at outfits like Les Petites Bilingues for kids or Wall Street Institute for adults.
What does your boyfriend do? |

Hello.
Thanks for the reply. At the moment I'm teaching at a private academy for adults and kiddies in Madrid, I have my TEFL, 4 years teaching experience here and a university degree. I'd probably be looking at outside schools, at least to start with.
My boyfriend is an electrician and speaks French as a second language.
Your comment about the ex-pats just hopping over is interesting. Maybe we should be looking at other areas also. |
