I'm enrolled to take a CELTA certification course at Instituto Britanico in August in San Jose. Apparently there's a good chance I may get offered a TESL job there if I do well in the course. I was wondering, do any of you know anything about Instituto Britanico and its reputation as an employer? Also, for a college-educatated 23-year-old who has worked full-time as a journalist for a year, how difficult will a month-long CELTA certification course be? Thanks. |

When I took my course it consumed all my time outisde the classroom. Any time I didn't spend eating, sleeping or commuting was spent working on my lesson plans. You may be different, but you should expect to have zero life outside of the course. |

Any training course for EFL worth its salt will take all of your time. It took all of mine--and I was an experienced teacher.
Find out how much they would pay you to work there after you finish the course--might not be worth it... |
