Does anyone know how I can start the process of landing an English teaching position in Germany? I am somewhat of a novice in speaking German, a U.S. citizen, have Bachelor's degree, and taught English in South Korea. Thank you. |

It might be easier for you to go there as a student and do some teaching part-time.
Work permit can be a problem for those who are not nationals of a EU member State. |

It's pretty difficult to get work in Germany if:
1. you're trying from afar
2. you're a US citizen
3. in the current economic climate
4. if you don't speak any German
I saw a thread on this board that had some strong disagreement about the need for German in order to teach English but I can tell you that this expectation is very real. You need to have some German to get a good job.
You could try contacting some of the inlingua and Berlitz schools but they're about the only ones which will take non-German speakers, US citizens, trying to get a job from outside Germany. The pay in those places is very, very low so be prepared for poverty. |
