Hey, I'm in Berlin at the moment and looking for a job as a an ESL trainer. I'm having trouble finding any kind of listings though, I'm not really sure where to begin as a result.
Does anyone know where to find job listings, or is it best to apply to schools directly? If so, does anyone know any reputable schools.
I appreciate it!

I don't know if there are listings of schools, as I am new at this in Berlin, too. However, someone suggested I join ELTABB, the Berlin-Brandenburg teacher's association, as it could be helpful for jobs, general information and just getting to know people. Maybe you could try that. |

I worked in two different German cities - not Berlin - so I can't recommend ESL schools there.
Do you have a Yellow Pages directory? Die Gelbe Seiten are pretty informative and you just look up Sprachschulen. Failing that you can have a look online. I think the Berlin School of English is on the second lot of pages (16-30). They often advertise for freelance English teachers and hold a CELTA course which I'd like to think makes them reputable.
I think it best to find schools and apply directly. There are also a few universities & Fachhochschulen (roughly - polytechnics) that may be worth a look.

I agree, yellow pages online is the easiest/most comprehensive. There is an expat forum which I think is called 'Toytown', which sometimes has jobs. I think there is also an 'English teachers in Germany' forum, though I haven't seen it for a while. Maybe do a search. |

Hi,
I worked in Berlin for Lingurama for 2 years. They were great, I had no problems with them at all. Always got paid on time and there was training at least twice a month. I heard they only take CELTA trained teachers now.
You can find them on the 4th floor of Friedrichstrasse 60. Just down from Checkpoint Charlie. It's all business English, mostly in company but they pay for travel. Probably the easiest money I've ever earned. Starters earn around 15-16 per 45 mins. Hope that helps. |
