I am sure this topic has been raised before but due to thhe search function on DavesESL cafe not allowing you to search "only titles".....

Does anyone have any experience teaching with good online companies (with a headset etc) to teach with that actually pay you !
I realise there is a topic below related to thei but it primarily concerns one company - ISUS - any others ?
cheers,
Gus

Here is a website that has a lot of live online jobs:

http://www.esljobsworld.com/esl-jobs/online.html

There are a lot of reputable companies out there and a heck of a lot of start ups. I've been working in the area for about four years now. The companies that I recommend are:

Tutor ABC
http://www.tutorabc.com (don't pay well, but provides students)

TalkBean
http://www.talkbean.com (quite selective in their screening process)

Myngle

http://www.myngle.com (a long waiting list for English teachers, but one can make money once one gets a reputation as it is a free market system)

Others where I have personally made money:

EduFire
http://www.edufire.com

Teacher James
http://www.teacherjames.com

EnglishBee

http://www.english-bee.com/eb-teacher/33-faq.php

Others that I just know about, but am not sure how they pay or whether they provide students:

Avilano
http://www.avilano.com/

Buddy School
http://www.buddyschool.com/

ChooseI
http://www.choosei.com/tutoring.aspx

Linkua

Spoken Skills

Teacher James

Good Luck!!

Holly, you are fantastic! i live in Georgia and need to make money (usually volunteer) and do not want to take jobs away from too many locals anyway. If you need anything from me let me know.

Many hugs for you

Very Happy

Great list!

Am I right to assume that these companies don't care where the teachers are living as long as they show up online? I've been trying to find a way to stay in India while making a western income, and this might be a way.

Thanks!

Thanks for the list Hollysuel Very Happy as with the poster above - do the companies care where you live and who provides the materials to teach?

I don't know anyone who teaches online at the moment but I imagine this is going to be a big field to teach in as time goes on.

Most companies only care about your accent and qualifications, but the location is irrelevant as long as you have broadband and/or stable internet. One advantage of living in some countries is the exchange rate. People in central and northern Europe have to charge more than people in, say, the Philippines. Be prepared to be paid via paypal.

And do you create your own lessons or do you follow a syllabus or book assigned by the school?

In my experience the material/syllabus provided to the teacher depends on the online school.

TalkBean--Yes
Myngle--Yes & No--depends on the course
Edufire--No
Teacher James--No
English Bee--No

I've heard that Tutor ABC also provides the material, but have no personal experience.

Does anyone else know about other schools?

May I ask how much they pay teachers with little experience? The website is not very forthright.
Thanks anyone!
